The Garden

My mother was a passionate and gifted gardener – something that bored me to no end when I was a child. During the last years of her life, when she was bedridden and wheelchair bound, she came to live with my family. During that time my husband and I started a garden with her as “consultant”. It was a way to connect her with something that she really loved. She gave directions, we did the grunt work, and before long a thing of beauty was born. We all connected in deep ways with nature and with each other and soon her passion became my own.

Today my creative work is born equally of my endeavors in the studio and my efforts in my garden. My garden supplies the physical material needed for my artwork, but also nurtures the connection and passion for the natural world essential to the work My garden is my artwork in progress - a giant ever-fluid canvas, inspired and nourished by my studio creations. Together they form the body of my work, speaking in a consistent voice of my ideas on beauty, design and spirit.
